Changing Dynamics in the Global Environment: 10th International Research Conference of KDU

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University has been in the forefront of higher education in Sri Lanka for the last 30 years, and it proudly conducts its 10th international research conference, at the University premises on 3rd and 4th August, 2017.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Changing Dynamics in the Global Environment: Challenges and Opportunities.”, and a large number of scholars, both military and civil, are expected to attend this conference, which is recorded to be one of the leading research conferences in the world, where both military and civil scholars exchange and disseminate knowledge gained through research and scholarly studies.

Each year, the university attracts more than 2000 researchers from all over the world and it receives more than 500 submissions of research papers. Out of a similar number of submissions, 320 papers have been selected to be presented at this year’s conference.

This year, the organizers have invited the world renowned Sri Lankan scholars –  Prof Chandra Wickramasinghe, an astronomer and astrobiologist residing in UK, and Dr  Bandula Wije, a scientist and a Biomedical Engineer, and KDU expects bestow Honorary Professorships on these two scientists in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the advancement of science.

Broadening opportunities for national and international scholars to disseminate and share their expert knowledge gained through various research, this year’s research conference has been organized under 9 thematic sessions.

Engineering sessions will cover Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Marine Engineering.

Medical sessions will comprise of the fields of preclinical and post clinical sciences and clinical sciences, while Allied Health Science sessions will consist of nursing, laboratory sciences, pharmacy, physiotherapy and radiography.

Law sessions will address areas of international law, criminal law, and military law.

Computing sessions will consist of computing and information technology.

Basic and Applied Sciences session will cover areas such as biochemical sciences, molecular bioscience, physics and agriculture.

Management Social Sciences and Humanities session will address areas of management, social sciences, languages, political science and economics.

Built Environment and Spatial Sciences session will consist of architecture, landscaping, quantity surveying, and surveying.

This conference will provide an opportunity for researchers from various fields to present their research findings, and all sessions will have a plenary sessionand a number of technical sessions. It is expected to give away awards for the best oral and poster presentations. Further, there will be a series of pre-conference workshops in line with the main conference.

Hon. Susil Premajanth, Minister of Science and Technology, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The conference, conducted under the guidance of Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe – Vice Chancellor, KDU, is chaired by Dr. Prasanna Premadasa – Senior Lecturer, with the assistance of co-secretaries Mr. W.P.L.K. Wijesinghe and Ms. A.M.T.N. Adikari – Lectures of KDU.
