CISCO Hackathon IoT 2017

Cisco Networking Academy Hackathon IoT (Internet of Things) competition 2017, which had been organized for the first time by the CISCO Networking Academy Council of Sri Lanka had been held on 25th and 26th of September 2017 at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLiiT) premises. This event had been open for all the student groups of Sri Lanka in the age between 14-30 years and is one of the challenging and demanding competitions in the arena of Information Technology. There had been 2500 students registered for the first round and 100 students representing 20 teams had been selected for the final round.

The competitors have been tasked to develop solutions using IoT technology for garbage management. Ten hour time period has been given initially for the development of a prototype solution. This task had been completed by the teams by 6 pm on the first day and judge panel had completed their initial evaluation by same evening. The second day had been dedicated to defend the proposed solutions emphasizing the viability of the product in a commercial environment.

On completion of the lengthy two rounds of this hard-fought competition, General Sir John Kothalawata Defense University emerged as the winner. The wining group consisted of Mr. K.K.V.S. Anjana, Miss. B.K.T.P. Wickramasinghe, Mr. U.D.V.A. De Silva, Mr. G.D.S.T. Rathnasekara and Mr. M.V.G. Dinuka from the faculty of Computing.  Further Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology had become the 1st runner-up and the University of Moratuwa had become the 2nd runner-up in the event.
