Degree Programs 


We are training the next generation of allied health professionals in a supportive and friendly environment.

The faculty has focused on developing both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs since its inception. Apart from the BSc degrees in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Pharmacy, an undergraduate Diploma in Operating Theatre Technology (OTT) is already on offer. Full time and part time postgraduate degrees will also be developed in due course in collaboration with Overseas universities in the United Kingdom in fulfilling the long due need in the training of specialist healthcare professionals in Sri Lanka.

The programs designed are student-centered to suit the needs of students with differing learning styles and to reinforce self directed, independent learning. Practice-based approach is given priority in the curriculum to enable graduates to develop holistic approach towards delivery of healthcare. The students are exposed to a range of learning opportunities on real and on simulated settings to enhance learning under the facilitation of academia from Sri Lanka and Overseas universities in the United Kingdom.

BSc Degree Programs

The BSc degree programs are credit based and designed to span over a period of 4 years as full time . GPA based assessments are conducted at end semesters for evaluation of student learning. On successful completion of course work and clinical placements, BSc (Hons) degrees are awarded after 4 years.

 Academic Departments



The Faculty has developed its degree programs under seven academic departments.

  • Department of Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy
  • Department of Radiography & Radiotherapy
  • Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Department of Pharmacy
  • Department of Multi Disciplinary Services which is entrusted with the task of developing short and long term course programs in other disciplines related to Health Sciences.


Academic Staff



  We are committed to ensuring the highest standards of learning by having a higher staff-student ratio and employing reputed academics. Their tasks will be supported and guided by the senior visiting academia from Overseas universities in the United Kingdom.

Experienced and content specialist academics from other state universities are also invited from time to time to share their experience in improving the quality of the degree programmes offered.



 The aim of FAHS is to become a reputed hub in South East Asian Region for research of international standards. The faculty intends developing its research facilities in liaison with UCLan and to open its doors for multi centred collaborative research in the near future.


 Career Prospects

 The qualification and experience gained at KDU will open up a range of career options globally. On successful completion of courses, jobs are guaranteed for five years at the Teaching Hospital of KDU. The opportunity to continue studies and research at postgraduate level are also offered. The career could move through different elements such as research, teaching, professional development and even managerial tasks.



Student Support Services


A range of student support services are at hand to help tackle academic and personal challenges during the stay at the university.

Each student is allocated to a mentor, a member of the academic staff to attend to their wellbeing.

A system for financial support through a state bank and is repayable upon graduation is available. The loan facility arranged covers the monthly expenses apart from the additional allowances provided to purchase books and laptops.
