Brigadier A L D M Gunasekara RSP USP psc

Brigadier  A  L  D  M  Gunasekara  RSP  USP  psc  joined  the  Sri  Lanka  Army  as  an  Officer  Cadet  in  1982  and  had  his  basic training  at  the  Sri Lanka  Military  Academy,  Diyatalawa.  He  was  commissioned  into  the  Corps  of  Engineers  as  a  Second Lieutenant  in  January  1984.  During  his career  he  has  held key  appointments on command, instructional and staff in  the  Sri Lanka  Army. In his regiment he served as an Engineer Troop Commander, Squadron Commander and the Commanding Officer of 9th Field Engineer Regiment. He served as a  Squadron  Commander  at  the  General  Sir John  Kotelawala  Defence  Academy and a Course Commander at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. He held the appointment of Commandant Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering.


He was also the Colonel (General Staff) of the Directorate of Operations, Army Headquarters and commanded 521 Brigade in Jaffna. He held the appointment of the Brigadier Coordinating at the Defence Services Command & Staff College from 2008 to 2009.  At present,  he  holds  the  appointment  of  the  Deputy Vice Chancellor /  Deputy  Commandant  of  the  General  Sir  John  Kotelawala Defence  University. 


Brigadier  Gunasekera  is  an  Alumnus  of  Defence  Services  Command  &  Staff  College,  Mirpur,  Bangladesh.  He  obtained  his Master's  Degree  in Management  from  the  General  Sir  John  Kotelawala  Defence  University and a  Diploma  in  Human Resource  Management  from  the  Institute  of Personal Management  (IPM),  Sri  Lanka. 


He  was  decorated  with  the  Rana  Soora  Padakkama  (RSP)  twice  (Gallantry  Award)  and  Uttama  Seva  Padakkama  (USP)  for his  dedicated  and unblemished  service  in  the  Sri  Lanka  Army.


Brigadier  Lal  Gunasekara  is  married  to  Anoma  and  is  blessed   with   two  children,  Danushi  and  Pubudu.
