Launch of the Publication Titled ‘Pakistan-Sri Lanka Relations: A Story of Friendship’

Pakistan-Sri Lanka Relations: A Story of Friendship’ a joint publication between General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), Sri Lanka and National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan was launched at the National Day event of Pakistan held at The Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo on March 23rd, 2017. To launch the publication, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (Retired) Syed Shakeel Hussain, HI(M), presented initial copies to Vice Chancellor – KDU, Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe and former Vice Chancellor – KDU, Major General (Retired) Milinda Peiris.

This publication intends to fill a vacuum in research on the bilateral relations between the two countries, providing a balanced overview of the interactions from historical ties to political and defence cooperation. It further details the economic relations between the two friendly states. The publication also dwells on the significant personal contacts, the people of the two countries have maintained with one another. Most importantly, it elaborates on the strategic and geopolitical importance of one country towards the other.

The joint publication which consists of five thematic areas, presents insights from both the Pakistan and Sri Lankan perspectives. Professor Amal Jayawardane, Dr. Sithara Fernando, Ms. Bhagya Senaratne, Mr. Asantha Senevirathna and Mr. Sanath de Silva from the Department of Strategic Studies along with Colonel Chandana Wickremasinghe, former Dean – Faculty of Defence & Strategic Studies contributed the Sri Lankan chapters.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Administration), Brigadier Indunil Ranasinghe and Research Coordinator – Department of Strategic Studies, Lieutenant Colonel Chaminda Wijayaratne too were present at this occasion.
