The 37th Commemoration of General Sir John Kotelawala and the Anniversary Day of the University

An all-night Pirith Ceremony was conducted in the university premises on 13th October 2017 to mark The 37th commemoration of the Late Sir John Kotelawala, who benevolently donated his movable and immovable property to establish General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

In concurrence with this religion ceremony KDU also celebrated its university day on the same day.

While the all-night Pirith ceremony was organized in a grand scale the Piruwana Poth Wahanse, the casket of relics and the Venerable Maha Sangha were heralded in a colourful pageant.

The Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe, having placed the casket of relics in the Pirith chanting chamber, respectfully invited the Ven Maha Sangha by offering betel to chant Pirith all-night.

This religious ceremony ended on the following day with the offering of the Heel Dhana for the Maha Sangha.

This Pirith Ceremony and the alms-giving were attended by the Chancellor, Admiral (Rtd) Daya Sandagiri, Vice Chancellor, Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Admin) Major General Indunil Ranasinghe, Rector of the Southern Campus Brigadier Anura Ariyasinghe, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Senior Professor Jayantha Ariyarathna, Relations of General Sir John Kotelawala, Senior officers of the Tri-Services, all Deans, member of civil academic and non-academic staff, Officer Cadets, Day Scholars and distinguished invitees.
