Workshop on Flood Risk Management

A workshop on Flood Risk Management is organized by the Faculty of Engineering of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University with the collaboration of three German universities on 13th and 14th March 2017. The resource persons of the workshop were Prof. Dr. Robert Jüpner, University of Kaiserslautern, Prof. Juergen Jensen, Research Institute for Water and Environment, University of Siegen, Prof. Achim Schulte, Freie University of Berlin and Prof. Dr.Wolfgang Breit, University of Kaiserslautern. Dr. Missaka Hettiarachchi, Senior Fellow of World Wildlife Fund (WWF), also shared his expert knowledge and WWF together with the Hans Sauer Foundation of Germany sponsored the workshop with KDU.

The Chief Guest of the inauguration ceremony of the workshop was His Excellency Jörn Rohde, the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe, Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Brigadier Idunil Ranasinghe Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence & Admin), Deans and the academics of KDU also participated in this event. Dr. (Mrs) WCDK Fernando, Dean Faculty of Engineering, warmly welcomed the chief guest, the distinguished invitees and the participants. Rear Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe, presented the keynote emphasizing the importance of conducting a workshop on a subject matter highly relevant to Sri Lankan context.
