All Night Pirith Chanting
The 40th annual Pinkama organized by KDU to invoke blessings on its benefactor, Late Prime Minister, General Sir John Kotelawala was held on 12th and 13th October 2021 at KDU premises at Ratmalana. The Pinkama consisted of an all-night Pirith Chanting ceremony that was followed by an alms giving in the morning.
Ven Kongamuwe Medankara Thero of Kandhawala Sri Punyawardanarama temple and 15 priests from 9 temples in the area participated in the pirith chanting ceremony. The venerable Maha Sangha were accompanied in a procession to the main academic building of KDU along with the casket of “Sacred Relic” and “Piriwane Pothwahanse”. Invited by the Vice Chancellor Major General Milinda Peiris, venerable Maha Sangha commenced the pirith ceremony after two sermons in which the significance of the event was explained to the participants.
The alms-giving in the morning, “Heel Dana” was offered to twenty priests to invoke blessings with the participation of the Vice Chancellor and KDU staff. Ms Malani Kotelawala also participated in the event representing the relatives of Sir John Kotelawala.
Vice Chancellor Major General Milinda Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration) Brigadier Wipula Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. KAS Dhammika, Tri-Service military staff, academic and non-academic staff participated in this religious event.
