Tree Planting Programme to mark the World Environment Day

In response to the directives from the Ministry of Defence and with the patronage of the Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) initiated a tree-planting programme at the University premises on 8th June 2020. The event was conducted to mark the World Environment Day.

As a University, KDU recognizes the need for conserving biodiversity and ecosystems to mitigate climate change and future environmental challenges while ensuring food security of the nations as well, and symbolizing the collective responsibility of all citizens towards the same, a selection of trees such as Mangoes, King Coconuts, Mangosteens and Jackfruits were planted in the premises  with the participation of all Senior Officers, Staff, Officer Cadets, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Day-Scholars of the University. In parallel, a similar tree-planting programme was also held at the KDU Southern Campus – Sooriyawewa.
