Brigadier W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc

Brigadier W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc is presently serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Sri Lanka. He was born on 20 April 1969 and was educated at St Mary’s College Negombo and St Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa. He was enlisted to regular intake 32 of the Sri Lanka Army on 14 July 1989. Having completed his basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned on 19 January 1991 and posted to the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery.

Brigadier W Chandrasiri has held numerous important appointments in Command, Staff and Instructional during his military career. He held the Command appointments as a Troops Commander, a Battery Captain, a Battery Commander and the Commanding Officer of 16th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery. Later, he was appointed as the Commander 241 Brigade in Akkaraipaththu and Deputy Commandant of Ranaviru Sewana Rehabilitation Centre Ragama. In staff appointments, he executed his duties as the General Staff Officer 2 (Training) Regiment Centre Sri Lanka Artillery, the General Staff Officers 2 (Training) Security Force Headquarters (East), the Staff Officer 2 (Additional) Military Secretary’s Branch Army Headquarters and General Staff Officer 1 (Operations/Training) Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). During his illustrious career he served as Officer Instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, Directing Staff at Defence Services Command and Staff College, Chief Instructor at Officer Study Centre Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa and Chief Instructor at Officer Career Development Centre Buttala. Also, he held the appointment of Brigadier Coordinator of National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid 19 Outbreak.

Besides the military and other courses of training he followed in Sri Lanka, Brigadier Wipula Chandrasiri has followed various military and other training courses in India, the United States of America, Nepal and Bangladesh. Further, he performed duties as a Military Observer in United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). Also he has visited Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Switzerland, Italy, France and Pakistan during his service in the Army.

Brig W Chandrasiri has performed a loyal and unblemished service in the Sri Lanka Army for over 31 years. He was a recipient of Rana Sura Padakkama for Gallantry and Uttama Seva Padakkama for unblemished conduct in the service. He is also a recipient of Videsha Seva Padakkama.

His interests include conducting leadership and motivation lectures/workshops, reading books and following world affairs. He is a devotee of Roman Catholic. Brigadier Wipula Chandrasiri is married to Mrs Janitha Fernando and blessed with two daughters and a son.
