Emerging Civil Engineer Award 2020

The Emerging Civil Engineer Award is an annual competition organized by the Sri Lanka Association of the Institution of Civil Engineers (SLAice). It provides the opportunity for the Civil Engineering undergraduates of Sri Lanka to present their innovations and Engineering solutions to existing issues in the industry or the country. The competition consists of three phases: the Idea phase, the Essay phase, and the Presentation phase. A well-structured process is used for evaluation and the most suitable candidate is awarded the title and the prize for the Emerging Civil Engineer.

So far the undergraduates of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, KDU have won the Emerging Civil Engineer Award for the years 2016, 2018 and, 2019.

The finals of the Emerging Civil Engineer Awards 2020 were held on 9th April 2021 and all three places were won by Intake 33 KDU graduates of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The winners with their areas of innovation, which are based on their final year research projects are:

Mr. MT Gunasekara – Low-cost Sensor-based approach to monitoring air quality
