First to Be the Doctor of Medicine of KDU

Captain (Dr) Madhura De Alwis achieved the significant landmark of being the first ever medical student of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to be qualified as Doctor of Medicine (MD).
Captain (Dr) Madhura De Alwis joined General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in year 2009 as an Officer Cadet of Intake 27. He was an outstanding Officer Cadet who balanced military training with education tremendously well. He got through the 2nd MBBS examination with a second class upper division (Distinction for Physiology), 3rd MBBS Examination with a second class upper division (Distinctions for Microbiology and Pharmacology) and the Final MBBS Examination with distinctions for all five subjects, i.e. Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Psychiatry. He was the gold medalist for Medicine and Pediatrics.
Capt (Dr) Madhura De Alwis completed his Internship at the Teaching Hospital Batticaloa. He was the Senior House Officer in a Medical Unit at the Army Hospital, Colombo and Medical Registrar for two and half years at the National Hospital Colombo.
