12th International Research Conference, 2019 organized by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) under the theme ‘Challenges to Humankind in the face of New Technologies’, is scheduled to be held on 11th and 12th of September 2019.
The first media briefing of KDU-IRC 2019 was held 29th May 2019 at the Ministry of Defence. The Vice-Chancellor, Air Vice Marshal HMSKB Kotakadeniya, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration) Brigadier H Hathurusinghe, Conference Chair Ms. Padmaja Wijesooriya, and Conference Secretary Mr. S. Satheesmohan led the media briefing and there were more than 16 media representatives from print and broadcast media as well as staff officers from KDU were present at the event.
The Vice-Chancellor stated the significance of KDU as an institution of military and academic excellence and its role in higher education and research. He, further highlighted the importance of IRC in bringing together leading international and Sri Lankan researchers to provide insights into the best ways to identify, conceptualise, develop and assess new priorities for the 21st century.
While the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration) emphasized the importance of the theme, as a timely and relevant platform to explore the challenges in an era of new technologies, the Conference Chair briefed on the paper receiving process, newly introduced paper submission tool, further benefits that can be gained by this international conference. Finally, a question & answer session was conducted by the panel with special reference to the theme vis-à- vis the terrorist attacks in Sri – Lanka.
