KDU signs a Document of Understanding with COMSATS University, Pakistan

The COMSATS University, Islamabad, is a leading university in the region currently ranked No 3 in Pakistan and it is among the first 200 top young Universities in the world. It offers over 100-degree programmes and has produced over 1000 PhDs since its inception. KDU entered into a Document of Understanding with COMSATS university on 29th September 2021 with an objective of cooperating in the areas of shared interests such as Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Sensors and Biosensors and Allied Fields.

The Vice Chancellor of KDU Major General Milinda Peiris and the Rector of COMSATS University Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal signed the Document of Understanding in a ceremony organized as a hybrid event in the presence of Former High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Sri Lanka H.E. Major General (Retd) Shahid Ahmad Hashmat and Counsellor (Political & Trade) the High Commission of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Pakistan Mr. UI Niyas.

Both the heads of institutions spoke in the event in addition to the representatives from the diplomatic missions. Vice Chancellor of KDU in his speech assured his fullest support for the collaboration and recalled his efforts together with the former High commissioner of Pakistan Major General Shahid Hashmat to establish a branch of COMSATS university in KDU’s southern campus.

The rector of COMSATS university, emphasizing his support for the collaboration, praised Sri Lankan students who are already studying in COMSATS and offered many fully funded undergraduate and postgraduate studentship opportunities for KDU. He went on to state that he wishes to see a closer collaboration between two institutions and invited the Vice Chancellor of KDU to visit COMSATS when the pandemic restrictions are relaxed.

Reflecting on what the Vice Chancellor of KDU has stated, the former High commissioner recalled the process they initiated in 2015 to establish a branch of COMSATS university in the southern campus of KDU. He stressed in his speech that still it is his wish to see that happened and he would support wholeheartedly in such an effort.

Registrar- Dr Sajjad A Madani, Dean Faculty of Sciences -Prof. Dr. Aftab Khan, Director P, D & HRD-Dr Tahir Naeem, Director Lahore Campus-Prof. Dr. Syed Asad Hussain, Head IRCBM-Dr. Aqif Anwar Chaudhry, Associate Professor IRCBM -Dr Muhammad Yar, Head, Academics and Research -Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Farooqui, Head International Office-Ali Tawab Baloch joined the meeting virtually from COMSATS University and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Admin), Dean, Faculty of Defence and Strategic Studies, Adjutant, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Dean- Faculty of Engineering, Director – International Relations, Head, Dept. of Electrical Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering & Deputy Registrar attended the ceremony in person representing KDU.
