Since the emergence of Nation State concept in 1648 each state is empowered to have sovereignty over it’s territory and domestic affairs, to the exclusion of all external powers, on the principle of non-interference in another country’s domestic affairs, with each state being equal in international law. Yet, conflicting interests between states and other unconventional threats compel a state to utilize its elements of national power to the best level tosafeguard the national objectives and its subjects.

Therefore, constant vigilance over, all aspects of National Security becomes an inherent responsibility of all law abiding and peace loving citizens of the country. General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU); with its unique nature with an academia in diverse disciplines both from civil and military holds a distinctive capability in viewing the aspects related to National Security comprehensively. Further KDU with said uniqueness stands high in its capability to act as a bridge between academic and policy making communities to set strategic policy priorities to serve the best interests to the nation whilst being depoliticized and to perform with autonomy.
